A Rhode Island workplace can be governed by overlapping federal and state rules. Minimum wage, overtime, leave, final pay, safety, discrimination, organizing, and unemployment insurance do not share one coverage test or one enforcement route. Start with the event and work location, then identify the statute and effective date before comparing protections.

The DOL wage table lists this state’s applicable floor here as $16.00. Its state-specific overtime summary reads: Rhode Island Basic Minimum Rate (per hour): $16.00 Premium Pay After Designated Hours 1 : Weekly - 40 Time and one-half premium pay for work on Sundays and holidays in retail and certain other businesses is required under two laws that are separate from the minimum wage law. Those lines are a research starting point, not a conclusion about a particular employee. Exemptions, employer size, industry, local ordinances, and job duties can change the result.

LaborBrief does not publish a paid-sick-leave, at-will-exception, or final-paycheck statement for Rhode Island when a current primary source has not been verified for that field. “Not available” is deliberate. The site will not turn a general national rule or an older secondary table into a state-law claim. Use Department of Labor and Training for current state guidance.

Unemployment insurance is administered under a separate federal-state framework. The January 2026 DOL table lists a maximum weekly benefit of $931 and up to 26 potential weeks for Rhode Island. It also reports the eligibility shorthand “1½ x HQW; 200 x minimum hourly wage in 1 qtr and 400 x minimum hourly wage in BP; or 1,200 x minimum hourly wage in BP.” The state agency decides claims; the maximum is not a promise of eligibility or payment.

For wage research, open the minimum-wage page and the federal topic pages for overtime, final pay, paid sick leave, and retaliation. Each topic links to at least two primary publications and distinguishes federal rules from state variation.

The BLS context—501,340 estimated jobs, $71,900 mean annual wage, and $56,780 median—describes the labor market, not legal coverage. Those May 2025 figures are included to orient readers, never to calculate a statutory right.
