A Maine workplace can be governed by overlapping federal and state rules. Minimum wage, overtime, leave, final pay, safety, discrimination, organizing, and unemployment insurance do not share one coverage test or one enforcement route. Start with the event and work location, then identify the statute and effective date before comparing protections.

The DOL wage table lists this state’s applicable floor here as $15.10. Its state-specific overtime summary reads: Maine Basic Minimum Rate (per hour): $15.10 Premium Pay After Designated Hours 1 : Weekly - 40 If the highest federal minimum wage is increased in excess of the State minimum wage in effect, then the State minimum wage will increase to the same amount, effective on the same date as the increase in the federal minimum wage. Those lines are a research starting point, not a conclusion about a particular employee. Exemptions, employer size, industry, local ordinances, and job duties can change the result.

LaborBrief does not publish a paid-sick-leave, at-will-exception, or final-paycheck statement for Maine when a current primary source has not been verified for that field. “Not available” is deliberate. The site will not turn a general national rule or an older secondary table into a state-law claim. Use Department of Labor for current state guidance.

Unemployment insurance is administered under a separate federal-state framework. The January 2026 DOL table lists a maximum weekly benefit of $1,090 and up to 26 potential weeks for Maine. It also reports the eligibility shorthand “2 x AWW in 2 different BP qtrs; total BPW = 6 x AWW.” The state agency decides claims; the maximum is not a promise of eligibility or payment.

For wage research, open the minimum-wage page and the federal topic pages for overtime, final pay, paid sick leave, and retaliation. Each topic links to at least two primary publications and distinguishes federal rules from state variation.

The BLS context—640,610 estimated jobs, $65,780 mean annual wage, and $51,430 median—describes the labor market, not legal coverage. Those May 2025 figures are included to orient readers, never to calculate a statutory right.
